Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Coached uses cookies and similar storage technologies on coached.au and in the Coached mobile applications. It forms part of, and should be read together with, the Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage, and service workers — let websites store data on your device for similar purposes. We use the term "cookies" throughout this policy to cover all of these technologies.
2. The categories we use
We use a small number of cookies and storage technologies, all in service of operating Coached. We do not use:
- Analytics cookies that build profiles of you across sessions.
- Marketing or advertising cookies.
- Third-party tracking cookies for behavioural advertising.
- Social media tracking cookies.
The categories we do use are:
2.1 Strictly necessary
These cookies are required for the Service to function. You cannot opt out and still use the Service.
| Cookie / storage | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase authentication tokens | Supabase | Keeps you logged in. Stored as JSON Web Tokens in browser storage. | Until you log out or the session expires |
| Service Worker registration | OneSignal / browser | Registers the push notification handler. Required for push notifications to work. | Persistent until removed |
2.2 Functional
These store preferences and in-progress work to improve your experience. They can be cleared via your browser's standard storage controls without breaking access to the Service.
| Storage item | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
coached_nudge_enabled |
Whether a Coach has enabled the check-in nudge feature. | Persistent |
cal_notif_seen_… |
Whether you have dismissed a particular calorie-adjustment notification. Prevents the same banner reappearing every load. | Persistent |
| Session draft autosave keys | Saves your in-progress training session for 24 hours so it isn't lost if you close the app mid-session. | 24 hours |
| Offline session queue (IndexedDB) | Stores your training session logs locally on your device when you are offline, so nothing is lost. The queue syncs to our servers and clears once you are back online. | Until synced (then removed) |
ytclient / editTemplateId |
Passes context to the program builder when you open it in a new tab. | One session |
2.3 Push notification (with consent)
If you grant permission to receive push notifications, OneSignal sets a cookie and registers a Service Worker on your device. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device's notification settings; this stops new notifications but the Service Worker remains registered until you remove it via your browser settings.
2.4 Cookies set by embedded third-party content
When the Service displays exercise demonstration videos, those videos are embedded from Vimeo or YouTube. Loading an embedded video lets the video provider set its own cookies and receive your IP address. We do not control these cookies. The video provider's cookie policies apply:
- Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/cookie_policy
- YouTube (Google): https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies
When you load a page that contains a Vimeo or YouTube embed but do not play the video, the provider may still set cookies. These embeds load when the page loads.
2.5 Cookies set by Google Fonts
The Service loads a single web font (Manrope) from Google Fonts. The font is loaded from fonts.googleapis.com. Google records the IP address of the request as part of standard server logs. No User-identifying data from Coached is transmitted to Google in this request.
Google's font privacy is described at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy.
3. Cookies we do not use
For clarity:
- No Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Posthog, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no other analytics product.
- No Facebook Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no any other advertising pixel.
- No A/B testing cookies.
- No fingerprinting libraries.
If we ever introduce analytics, we will update this Cookie Policy, the Privacy Policy, and announce the change in-app before any tracking begins.
4. How to control cookies
You can:
- Clear cookies and storage at any time via your browser's settings. Note that clearing the strictly-necessary cookies (Section 2.1) will log you out of the Service.
- Block third-party cookies in your browser. This will prevent Vimeo and YouTube embedded videos from setting their own cookies. The Service itself does not rely on third-party cookies for its core functionality and will continue to work.
- Withdraw push notification consent at any time via your device's notification settings.
- Use private browsing mode to discard cookies and storage at the end of each session.
We do not currently display a cookie consent banner. Under Australian law, consent banners are not required for strictly-necessary cookies, and we do not use the kinds of cookies (analytics, marketing) that typically require explicit consent.
If we expand to jurisdictions with stricter cookie consent requirements (such as the European Union or the United Kingdom), we will introduce an appropriate consent banner before opening the Service to Users in those jurisdictions.
5. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, including when we add or remove a cookie or storage technology. The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy is the date of the most recent change. Continued use of the Service after a change indicates acceptance of the updated Cookie Policy.
